FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Updated: July 17, 2017
Shannon Lake Road at the bridge over McDougall Creek is closed for construction.
Motorists and cyclists are asked to use Old Okanagan Highway to access Highway 97 during the closure, which will continue into October. Pedestrian access over McDougall Creek will be maintained as much as possible during construction, but some intermittent closures of the walkway bridge will be necessary.
The $975,000 improvement project is necessary due to the age of the structure and to increase load-bearing capabilities for emergency vehicles. Some realignment will also be done within the available road right of way.
The City of West Kelowna apologizes for the inconvenience. Engineers and staff considered numerous options to minimize impact on motorists and arrived at the best, most cost effective option, with the shortest window of construction, while adhering to regulations that govern how and when work can be conducted in the vicinity of creeks.
The City of West Kelowna thanks BC’s Ministries of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Transportation and Infrastructure for working closely with city staff and engineers to help mitigate the impacts of this project.
