Am I eligible for the Provincial Home Owner Grant (HOG) which is now called the Northern and Rural Area Home Owner Benefit?
The provincial HOG is designed to help homeowners reduce their property taxes.
  • You must be a BC resident
  • You must own and reside on the property as your principal residence when you apply
  • You and your spouse, together, can only claim 1 grant
  • You may be required to prove your eligibility
  • If you turn 65 years old anytime during the current year, you are eligible to claim the additional grant by providing your date of birth on the application (Year / Month / Day)



There are 2 grant categories:
  • The regular grant may reduce your taxes by as much as $770
  • The additional grant may reduce your taxes by as much as $1045.


Please note: The provincial HOG needs to be claimed every year. Having claimed a home owner grant in a previous year does not qualify as a valid home owner grant claim in the current taxation year.
