Yard Waste Pickup Winds Down
Another sign that winter is on the way - one month remains for curbside yard waste collections in 2012.
Thursday, November 30 is the last day for bi-weekly, curbside yard waste collection in the Central Okanagan until pickups resume March 1, 2013.
Final yard waste, curbside pickup weeks in West Kelowna are as follow:
-
Week of November 18 (areas marked B on the
map), and;
-
Week of November 25 (areas marked A on the
map).
Simply place your yard waste directly into the cart with the green lid closed and wheel it out for pickup every other week (alternate weeks to your recycling pickup). To determine your yard waste collection week, please click here to refer to the Living Greener Calendar, download the my-waste app, or visit www.regionaldistrict.com/recycle.
Waste Reduction Facilitator Rae Stewart says residents make great use of the bi-weekly collection. “So far this year alone we’ve collected approximately 11,000 tonnes of yard waste at the curb."
Stewart adds, “Collecting yard waste separately not only means it can all be composted, it also saves landfill space, cuts down on landfill traffic congestion, and offers residents a great soil enhancer in the form of GlenGrow they can buy for their own gardens come springtime.”
You’re reminded to put your yard waste out for collection before 7 a.m. on the morning of your regular garbage day.
Accepted items include:
Note: No garbage, landscaping fabric, plastic bags, flowerpots, rocks, soil, sod, or kitchen scraps please.
Remember, you can also take up to 250 kilograms of yard waste to the Glenmore landfill and Westside Residential Recycling and Disposal Center free of charge year round.
If you’re looking to upgrade your yard waste cart, up to two additional 360 litre carts can be purchased from your municipality. For additional carts and collection options, contact your municipality or visit www.regionaldistrict.com/recycle.
