The Development Services Division is responsible for the management of all land use decisions in West Kelowna.
The division is comprised of six primary departments:

BUILDING
The Building Department administers the District of West Kelowna's Building, Zoning, and Safe Premises Bylaws and oversees building permits and inspections.
The department is also responsible for inspecting and issuing permits for secondary suites.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICE
The Business Development Office provides services to existing and new businesses to help them locate, grow and succeed in West Kelowna.

CURRENT PLANNING
The Current Planning Department is largely responsive in nature and is primarily focussed on the management of present or pending development in the municipality. In this capacity, the Development Services Division performs a number of responsibilities ranging from processing Development Permit or Zoning Amendment Applications to responding to day to day inquiries from the general public.

DEVELOPMENT ENGINEERING/SUBDIVISION APPROVALS
The Development Engineering Department reviews development applications to ensure they are consistent with engineering best practices. Staff works with applicants and referral agencies to approve subdivisions after appropriate servicing levels of each proposed lot, subdivision or neighbourhood have been determined and appropriate zoning is in place.

LAND AGENT
The Land Agent coordinates municipal property issues, including the identification and evaluation of property acquisition opportunities.

LONG RANGE PLANNING
Long Range Planning is important because it helps forecast and address future community needs. Plans and strategies, including the Official Community Plan (OCP) and the Zoning Bylaw, provide the District of West Kelowna with the knowledge and direction necessary to prepare for potential challenging times and it establishes goals and policies to manage change.
