Sewers
The District of West Kelowna, with assistance from its partners, the Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia, and under the guidance of Council's 2010 Strategic Priorities, has embarked on an ambitious plan to extend sewers, prior to March 31, 2011 in the following neighbourhoods:
The District of West Kelowna is grateful for the two-thirds funding for these projects, made available through the Federal and Provincial Government's Building Canada - Communities Component Program.
These current phases of sewer extension work build on similar infrastructure work started in 2009 in the Ranch Road and Country Pines neighbourhoods of Glenrosa, also made possible with two-thirds funding from the Federal and Provincial Governments.
Further upgrades are slated to take place in Glenrosa, in the Dunbarton and Webber Road North neighbourhoods, and in Lakeview Heights, in the Thacker and Boucherie Roads North and Hayman Road neighbourhoods, in a phased approach, which will continue through March 2014.
Work on sewer extensions began in 2009, after Council made it a high priority to replace aging septic systems throughout the Municipality. Construction began shortly after the completion of a Sewer Servicing Strategy Update.
Roads & Sidewalks
In addition to the already successful completion of the Gellatly Road and Trail Upgrade (opening ceremony photo: right), the Municipality will continue its popular Road Rehabilitation Program later this year.
This endeavour will build on the success of the District's 2009 Road Rehabilitation Program.
Details on the 2010 Road Rehabilitation Program, which will include a Sidewalk Improvement Program, are expected in late summer. The work will include repaving of streets currently being dug up for sewer projects in Glenrosa, Westbank and Lakeview Heights.
In 2008, Council also approved infrastructure upgrades to sidewalks, signs and pedestrian crossings in the vicinity of local public schools.
