Waterfront Land Exchange (Proposed)
July 2010 - A proposed land exchange of the Whitworth Road End adjacent to private property in exchange for 4129 Gellatly Road immediately south of Marina Park is generating public interest.
Council initially considered this exchange earlier this year and received public input on the proposed exchange and agreed on February 23, 2010 to not pursue it in light of the Waterfront Plan development that is underway.
Council has been made aware of renewed interest from the owner of 4129 Gellatly Road, to pursue the exchange proposal a second time.
According to Council’s Procedure Bylaw, Council cannot reconsider a defeated bylaw any sooner than six months after it was first considered unless two-thirds of council voted to agree to consider it sooner. This means the property owner cannot submit a proposal for a land exchange to the District until August 24, 2010.
If a new application for the proposed land exchange is received by the District, it will be forwarded to Council for direction and will be considered fairly and thoroughly, including calls for public input at the time of consideration.
