PLANNING AND OPERATIONS
Funding for West Kelowna's Transit System is cost shared between the District of West Kelowna and the Government of British Columbia. The District of West Kelowna works with BC Transit to establish and review routes and levels of service and makes recommendations for Council's consideration for approval.
West Kelowna's system is one component of the larger Kelowna Regional Transit System, which also includes service in the City of Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Regional District of Central Okanagan and Westbank First Nation.
Phases 2 and 3 of the RapidBus initiative would include expansion into West Kelowna with anticipated completion in 2014. The current intent is that RapidBus would provide express service, along Highway 97, from Westbank Centre to UBC Okanagan. Two transit exchanges would be considered in Westbank Centre and Boucherie Centre. The West Kelowna system would connect into the Phase 1 system in Kelowna with stops at: Queensway in downtown Kelowna; Spall, adjacent to Landmark Centre and Parkinson Recreation Centre; Cooper, adjacent to Orchard Park Shopping Centre; Leckie, adjacent to Central Park Shopping Centre; McCurdy, adjacent to McCurdy Corner Shopping Centre; and, the UBC Okanagan campus.

The Kelowna Regional Transit System is committed to the reduction of greenhouse gases. The system was the first in the nation to use Hybrid Electric Buses. The system also uses double decker buses on higher volume routes, alleviating the need to run additional vehicles back to back on the same route. Kelowna Regional Transit buses are also equipped with bike racks allowing users to combine modes of transportation.
