From April 1 through August 1, 2013, Jim Lind Arena will be closed for major renovations.
Funding for the $1.1 million project is being provided through District of West Kelowna reserves and a $250,126 grant from the Government of Canada's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, part of the Economic Action Plan 2012.
ABOUT THE RETROFIT
This important $1.1 million upgrade will ensure the continued, long-term use of the 40-year-old Jim Lind Arena.
Renovations include:
-
A new concrete ice floor - the original ice floor was built in 1974 and was expected to last up to 40 years. The floor has had two major leaks in the past seven years, causing unfortunate service disruptions.
-
New rink boards - the boards, also built in 1974, are made of wood and are old and worn. The new boards will be metal frame and less susceptible to rot.
-
New rink glass - the current glass does not meet industry recommended height standards. New glass will meet these standards and will be seamless.
-
New rink lights - more efficient lighting will be installed, improving visibility inside the facility as well as reducing energy consumption by approximately 38 per cent.
